...we cleaned our rooms

And when I say we, I mean the four year olds. Since Big Girl is in college, we now have the luxury of everyone in their own room. Which means three acceptable play rooms, which means three rooms to clean every night. I lose it put them to bed every night around 8:30, cleanliness be damned. We're trying to not take naps, because if we do we are up till midnight, yet if we skip the nap they are dead tired at dinner. And if they do take a nap, they never recover their cheerful dispositions, it's just a lot of wine whining around our house in the evenings. (I'm kidding about the wine, it is on the long list of things that freak my body out)

So, because I've discovered that a little investment of time lets me be lazy yet look amazing I am investing the same effort we did with swimming two years ago into room cleanliness. Now as you'll recall (or not as swimming was preblog), we were in the pool for at least an hour every day for six weeks before the then two year olds caught on. But once Felpsy caught on it was peer pressure to the rescue and they were all sans floaties shortly thereafter. And since I don't miss a chance to brag on them, we went swimming today, Boog can swim the width of the pool, no assistance. Princess can dive off the diving board about 20 times and swim to the edge, even under the lane lines. Felpsy and his broken arm, well lets just say even though at least three doctors confirmed it was indeed broken, you would never know it.

But back to the rooms. Usually I nag for about 17 hours a day for them to clean their rooms. Tonight after the nightly daddy debriefing time, I was annoyingly excited about them cleaning their rooms. I even controlled myself enough to not freak when one of them decided to put everything in trash, not just the trash and we had to start all over. Felpsy even swept for Princess. Boog picked up all of her trash. Now to be fair, Princess currently has the "it" room, so there is a lot more mess in there. It was not perfect, but it was perfectly ok to me.

And it is my new week resolution to continue. Keeping in mind the swimming. Because if I do this right I can go right back to being lazy, like I am in the pool. And if you're wondering how teaching two year olds to swim is lazy parenting, when is the last time you took three, let's say three year olds to the pool? It's hard work. Not for me, I am could be drinking in the hot tub and they would be just fine.

I'm just waiting for TLC to contact me about doing a documentary on the best parent in the world. It'll be the best, what with all the blobs over the kids faces as I do not have video release rights to the babes.

You crack me up! :)

This reminds me of a conversation with my aunt who was visiting from TX over Christmas. She asked me what I was going to do when I have the kids all raised. My sister told her I would probably drink. I told my sister that know is the time for that--when they are raised maybe I'll go into rehab. (All in jest , of course.) :)

I am interested to hear more about your room cleaning. That is a big time struggle with our special one.
